Our Approach
Uni to Uni Safeguard guides individuals through tailored support, structured interventions, and compassionate counselling to foster disengagement from extremist ideologies. As a free service run by our NGO we operate for the benefit of London Students. Hence all sessions are run on individual campuses (particularly in the Russell Square area of Bloomsbury).
We do not except new clients without a proper referral from a student union body, the MET Police or one of our affiliated partners. We also do not fund raise, or accept money in any shape or form. If you wish to help us you can either volunteer (for us or our affiliated partners) or donate money to any of the University of London Student Unions (UCL, SOAS, Birkbeck, Queen Mary, King’s College, etc). As per procedure, all volunteers are DBS checked.
Because of our voluntary status and GDPR confidentiality policy, we don’t provide a telephone number. If you wish to contact us you can either email us or send a message through the form found on the contact page. If you send us a message, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Visitor comments are checked and flagged through an automated spam detection service.
Radicalization among students is a growing problem that highlights the need for early intervention, critical thinking education, and effective support systems. Requiring careful attention from educators, families, and communities, it poses significant challenges to social cohesion, security, and educational environments.
Our approach below simplifies this need into manageable bits seeking to understand its causes and prevention strategies:
Step One: Initial Assessment
We begin with a comprehensive evaluation to understand each individual’s background and needs, laying the groundwork for a personalized support plan.
Step Two: Structured Intervention
Clients engage in targeted counselling sessions designed to challenge harmful beliefs and promote positive behavioural change.
Step Three: Reintegration Support
Our program facilitates smooth societal reintegration, offering ongoing guidance to reduce re-offending risks and strengthen community connections.
In collaboration with other organisation, it’s important to note that deradicalization efforts from our part has always respected students’ rights to hold diverse political, religious, or social views. Hence the focus is generally on reducing support for violence, coercion, or extremist ideologies that encourage harm to others. However, holding controversial views it self is not a crime. And while we encourage dialogue and civic engagement, it is not our place to either change, dwell or take sides onto religious and/or political subjects effecting individuals identity and/or sense of purpose.
